WMBF News reports that (WBTV) - A woman died after she was run over by her own vehicle in a parking lot near the North Carolina-South Carolina state line on Wednesday evening.
The deadly June 10 crash happened in the parking lot of the Madison Ridge apartments, right off Highway 160 in Indian Land.
The Lancaster County coroner said the woman -- 63-year-old Margaret McWeeney -- was believed to have gotten out of the car while it was still in reverse, unbeknownst to her.
When the car started to roll backward, the coroner said McWeeney tried to get back into the car but accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes.
The car then accelerated backward and hit McWeeney and nearby vehicles.
The coroner’s office said it was investigating the crash, along with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
