WMBF News reports that MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The generosity of the Grand Strand and Pee Dee community is helping thousands of children avoid hunger this summer.

WMBF News and the Salvation Army wrapped up the Summer Without Hunger drive, raising more than $10,000 to help feed families across the region.

Members of the WMBF News morning team delivered the donation to the Salvation Army Wednesday.

The Salvation Army says the funds will be distributed in several rounds of giving.

The first round alone will help feed 1,600 families from the Grand Strand to the Pee Dee.

The drive ran from May 11 through June 4.
