WMBF News reports that MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Grand Strand neighbors gathered Saturday at Nance Plaza to celebrate LGBTQ Pride Month.

For many attendees, the celebration was about more than love.

said she attends Pride to be a visible member of the community for young people, and the event makes her reflect on her journey to self-acceptance.

“When I was a younger version of myself, it was the only place that I could actually be myself,” she said.

“For many years of my life I was living a lie and trying to hide who I really was.” Courtney Douglass, who also goes by Connor Douglass, said Pride celebrations are a chance for the LGBTQ community to come together.

“Pride is all about bringing community and people together, being able to connect with people,” Douglass said.
