WMBF News reports that LITTLE RIVER, SC (WMBF) - A veterans’ nonprofit has permanently closed its thrift store after losing a grant that provided $10K a month from Horry County.

The Veterans Welcome Home and Resource Center opened the thrift shop in 2022 to take donations from the community and provide free furniture, clothing, and personal care items to veterans in need.

All funding to keep the store open came from grants the organization applied for, including the Horry County grant.

This year, VWHRC was not selected to receive the grant, and keeping the shop building was no longer sustainable.

“It’s provided all kinds of furniture, clothing, personal care items; we have a food pantry up there, and our veterans get to come in, and it’s kind of like a shopping day,” said Scott Dulebohn, CEO of the Veterans Welcome Home and Resource Center.

Dulebohn said the grant money supported more than just the thrift shop, and the organization is seeing impacts across all services.
