WMBF News reports that HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A teenager charged in a 2024 Horry County homicide will now be tried as an adult after a court determined adult court was the appropriate venue for her murder case.
Nashyiah Vereen, now 18, was 16 when Horry County police arrested her in the November 7, 2024, shooting death of 19-year-old Daquan Wright at a home on Fowler Road in the Conway area.
The shooting was captured on a doorbell camera, according to an arrest warrant.
She was initially charged as a juvenile, as required under South Carolina law.
The 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office filed a motion, known as a waiver, on Nov.
15, 2024, asking Family Court to relinquish jurisdiction over the murder charge so Vereen could be tried as an adult in General Sessions Court.
