WMBF News reports that SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Surfside Beach fired two finance department employees Wednesday morning after a May financial scam.
Finance assistant Brian Gray and business license official Nicole Kindzia were fired Wednesday morning after both had worked for the town for multiple years.
Gray said he had heard prior to the firing that town administrator Gary Vincent and finance director Melanie Gruber believed they had sent the money to the fake account during a scam.
Surfside Beach was scammed when trying to pay Wildcat Construction $545,000 for utility work they had completed.
The money was sent in an online payment to an email that featured two I’s in the word Wildcat.
He said he believes their firings were due to that.
