WMBF News reports that SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Surfside Beach has passed a new ordinance banning people from feeding geese, seagulls, and most other wildlife within town limits.

The ordinance passed 6-1 and states that no person within the town’s limits may feed wildlife, including geese and seagulls.

People who violate the ordinance could receive a fine of up to $500 or up to 30 days of community service or jail time.

The ordinance also states that law enforcement may pursue violations at their own discretion.

Members of the public can also provide evidence of violations.

Bird feeders are exempt under the ordinance.
