WMBF News reports that SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Surfside Beach officials provided an update on an ongoing investigation into a scam that cost the town $545,000, with the mayor saying decisions on liability could come soon.
City Council held a meeting on Monday night, about a month after the investigation was launched.
Mayor Robert Krouse said the investigation is working to determine if the city or Wildcat Construction is at fault.
“The insurance and banking stuff is probably within weeks or months.
Law enforcement could be looking at this for who knows how long,” Krouse said.
Surfside Beach lost the money while trying to pay Wildcat Construction for utility work the company completed.
