WMBF News reports that SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Surfside Beach is at a standstill, waiting for key reports before it can take the next step in recovering $545,000 stolen through a cyberattack earlier this year.
Gerald Vincent, the town’s administrator, gave an update on the cyberattack during Tuesday’s town council meeting.
Vincent said the municipal association is waiting for key documents: the forensic report, the status of the recovery efforts from the bank and the report from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
Until those items are received, Vincent said the association is at a standstill.
The town’s insurance company will need all of those things to determine responsibility, Vincent said.
In the meantime, the town is making changes to avoid this in the future.
