WMBF News reports that SCOTLAND COUNTY, NC (WMBF) - A man is recovering after being hit by a stray bullet in the Maxton area of Scotland County.
Deputies responded Saturday to Benton Drive after receiving reports of someone being shot.
At the scene, one person was detained, and deputies found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was airlifted to a medical facility for treatment and is expected to be OK.
Investigators determined the man was not the intended target; a stray bullet hit him during what deputies called an altercation.
Deputies believe the altercation started at a nearby home and spilled over to another home, where shots were fired.
