WMBF News reports that COLUMBIA, SC (WMBF) - The former sponsor of a bill that would criminalize coercive control says he will reintroduce the bill after it failed to advance earlier this year.
State Senator Stephen Goldfinch previously told WMBF that S.
702 would not pass the Senate as redistricting debates took priority, and the bill would have to begin the proposal process again in the next legislative session.
Goldfinch did not clinch his campaign to be the Republican nominee for South Carolina Attorney General and will return to his term in the state senate.
He told WMBF on June 25, 2026, that he intends to propose a coercive control bill again.
“My plan is definitely to reintroduce it in January.
