WMBF News reports that HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Water utility company activates drought plan as severe conditions hit Grand Strand and Pee Dee counties.

The South Carolina State Climatology Office and the South Carolina Drought Response Committee have declared a severe drought condition for the Pee Dee River Basin, which includes Horry, Marion, and Dillon counties.

In response, Grand Strand Water & Sewer Authority is activating its Drought Management Plan, effective July 1.

Under normal conditions, excess charges apply after 8,000 gallons of water usage per month.

Under the Drought Management Policy for severe conditions, excess charges will begin after 6,000 gallons of usage per month.

GSWSA is asking customers to reduce or eliminate all non-essential water usage to protect the service area’s water supply and fire protection capabilities.
