WMBF News reports that (WITN) - Bertie County officials say two detention officers who were being held hostage in the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail are free.
Bertie County Commissioner and Jail Board Commissioner Vivian Saunders told WITN that all officers who were being held inside the jail are out now.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office reports that those officers are safe.
Officials say law enforcement is working to regain control of the jail.
inmates overpowered staff and seized control of the jail.
At the time, there were three guards and 88 inmates inside the facility.
