WMBF News reports that CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - A new report details what investigators think led to a boat crash in Horry County that left a 19-year-old dead.
Through a Freedom of Information Act request, WMBF News received the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources’ report on the May 8 Waccamaw River crash.
Two boats were involved in the afternoon crash and Canon Burkett, 19, of Conway, was the operator of one of them.
Burkett’s boat was going north on the left side of the river roughly 30-39 mph, and the other boat was going south on the right side of the river around 20-29 mph, according to the report.
At the river’s curve, the two boats headed toward each other.
The second boat turned right, and Burkett’s turned left, and the second boat hit Burkett’s boat, the report stated.
