WBTW News13 reports that (WBTW) -- Prosecutors have dropped murder and other charges against a 23-year-old man accused of shooting and killing a 16-year-old Darlington-Lee Adult Education Center student on the school's campus in 2023.
was arrested and charged with murder, criminal conspiracy, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and receiving stolen goods nearly three weeks after 16-year-old Si'dreek Maurice Player was killed on Oct.
At the time, authorities said the shooting, which happened in a parking lot outside the school, appeared to have been drug and gang-related and tied to a crash that happened four days earlier.
The 4th Circuit Solicitor's Office told News13 on Tuesday the murder charge was dropped on April 14, nearly 2 1/2 years after the deadly shooting.
The other charges were also dropped at the same time, according to online public records.
In an email statement, Solicitor Mike Burch's office said the door remains open to possibly reinstate the murder charge.
