WMBF News reports that MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A project to add additional lighting to a busy section of Ocean Boulevard is underway.
Crews began installing wiring for permanent string lights along Ocean Boulevard from 9th Avenue North to 14th Avenue North overnight on May 16.
The project is part of the Myrtle Beach Downtown Alliance’s Ocean Boulevard Revitalization Plan, aiming to create a safer and more welcoming environment for businesses, neighbors and visitors.
The initial design of the project included lighted arches above the road, but in an update, the MBDA said a review with the fire, public works, and construction services departments found the arch design could not be implemented without going over the approved budget and compromising safety clearances.
MBDA said design plans continue for a future arch concept, but for the first phase of installation, only string lights will be added.
Neighbors working along Ocean Boulevard told WMBF they are excited for the lights to be installed and hope the project will increase safety.
