WMBF News reports that NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The City of North Myrtle Beach approved its 2026-2027 fiscal budget Monday, including an $18 million bond ordinance for upgrades to the aquatic and fitness center.
The aquatic center has been a recreational space for over 20 years, known for its summer camps, junior lifeguard trainings, classes, and after-school programs.
The 31,000-square-foot expansion is to include new gyms, fitness studios, locker rooms, and play spaces.
Council members said debt from the bond is anticipated to be covered by accommodation tax revenue, meaning most of the payment is made by tourists.
Councilman Fred Coyne said the center provides opportunities for different people, and the city wants to give the necessary updates to keep the center in the best shape it can be.
“You’ve got a 20-plus-year-old facility.
