WMBF News reports that (WIS) - Alex Murdaugh’s defense team filed new motions days before the next hearing in the case.

Murdaugh, a former well-known Lowcountry attorney, was previously convicted in the 2019 deaths of his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul.

The South Carolina Supreme Court later overturned his conviction earlier this year, opening the door for a potential new trial.

A hearing in the case is scheduled for Monday in Lexington County, before Circuit Court Judge Debra McCaslin.

In documents filed on June 24, Murdaugh attorneys Dick Harpootlian and Jim Griffin again requested that a retrial take place outside of Colleton County and the greater 14th Judicial Circuit, arguing that Murdaugh would not receive a fair trial due to his reputation there.

Other requests made by Murdaugh’s defense included an independent review and testing of DNA reportedly found underneath the fingernails of Maggie’s left hand.
