Myrtle Beach votes to allow pedal pubs to operate year-round

WMBF News reports that MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Pedal Pub will now be a year-round operation in Myrtle Beach.

Myrtle Beach City Council passed the second and final reading of the ordinance, which amends the city’s code for vehicles for hire to include rules for pedal-powered passenger vehicles.

City officials said they were approached by a potential franchise interested in offering pedal-powered vehicles for hire for tours of the entertainment district and downtown.

The city said it did not previously have an ordinance specifically regulating those vehicles or a formal process to obtain a franchise agreement.

The ordinance is intended to set parameters for issuing a franchise agreement for pedal-powered passenger vehicles on Myrtle Beach streets and to regulate how the vehicles operate, according to the city.
