WMBF News reports that MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A Myrtle Beach pet store is fighting to restore its Facebook page after the platform’s AI flagged the account, leading to a significant drop in sales and customer confusion.
The Spoiled Pet, which has sold ferrets, hermit crabs, bunnies, and other animals for 20 years, had its Facebook page taken down nearly a month ago.
Owners Robert and Bonnie Mills said the page was flagged by Facebook’s AI for selling animals on the platform.
The account had over 8,000 followers and served as the primary advertising channel for the business.
“I would have to guess 30% of our business is from there, you know, just from that one platform, so it’s definitely affecting,” Robert said.
“I could see the numbers over the past month are down for sure.” While Facebook’s policy prohibits most animal sales on the platform, it does allow brick-and-mortar pet stores like The Spoiled Pet to promote their business and sales.
