WMBF News reports that MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The Myrtle Beach City Council approved the municipal improvement district, or MID, tax for another year.

City leaders spent more time discussing what the renewal should mean for oversight and results in the downtown district.

The MID tax has a 10-year lifespan that began in 2022.

It must be renewed each year, and Mayor Mark Kruea said that approval is not guaranteed.

“So we’ve said yes, continue for the moment, but we’ll have this conversation ongoing,” Kruea said.

The tax is placed on commercial property owners downtown and along Ocean Boulevard.
