WMBF News reports that MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A contract dispute between MUSC Health and Cigna could leave 30,000 patients across South Carolina facing higher out-of-pocket costs if the two sides fail to reach an agreement by June 30.
MUSC Health could go out of network starting July 1, leaving Cigna policyholders with larger bills.
According to Cigna, if MUSC goes out of network, customers with health maintenance (HMO), preferred provider organization (PPO) and open access plans (OAP) will be affected.
MUSC said patients should keep their appointments, including scheduled surgeries, while talks continue, and they will continue to keep patients updated.
Patients in the middle of complex or ongoing treatment, such as cancer care or pregnancy, may have “continuity of care” options that allow them to see MUSC doctors at in-network rates for a limited time.
Myrtle Beach homeowner Jennifer Smith said she has pre-existing conditions, so she must see doctors at Tidelands Health at least every six months.
