WMBF News reports that MULLINS, SC (WMBF) - The Marion County National Action Network officially launched the Let Mullins Vote campaign, bringing together community members and leaders to restore the city’s municipal elections.

The campaign is seeking 600 signatures from Mullins residents, which would require the city to consider changing election dates back to November.

On April 24, the Mullins City Council voted 5-1 to adopt an ordinance that changed the Mullins municipal elections from November to April.

The change came after interim city attorney James Bain found a municipal code that stated elections should be held the first Tuesday of April, when they had been held in November in previous years.

NAN leaders said past elections in both Mullins and Marion County have shown low turnout rates for April elections in comparison to November election rates.

NAN Vice President Darius Pickett said this past April, the county’s school board elections received only a 12.5 percent turnout.
