WMBF News reports that MARION COUNTY, S.C.(WMBF) — Overcrowding and staffing issues have brought operations at the Marion County Animal Shelter to a breaking point.

The shelter has only two full-time and two part-time employees.

Capacity is around 80 animals, but more than 240 are on site, with more coming in each day and dozens more on a waiting list.

The shelter is funded by the county, but staff say limited funding has restricted resources.

They say millions of dollars in renovations are needed to improve the facility, and hiring additional staff would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Animal control arrived with more animals picked up this morning, adding to an already crowded space.
