WMBF News reports that GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A man was arrested after authorities say he led deputies on a high-speed chase that ended in a crash and a brief search on foot in Georgetown County.

Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of Grant Huffstetler, 29, of Pawleys Island, early Wednesday morning.

The sheriff’s office said deputies tried to stop Huffstetler Tuesday evening on Springs Avenue in Pawleys Island after residents reported he was driving recklessly and had struck another vehicle.

Investigators said he sped off toward Georgetown on Highway 17, then made a high-speed U-turn near the bridges into town, blowing out a tire.

Authorities said Huffstetler later crashed on Waverly Road and ran from the scene, but deputies found him after a brief search and took him into custody.

Huffstetler is currently being held at the Georgetown County Detention Center on charges of DUI, third offense, and failure to stop for a blue light, according to the sheriff’s office.
