WMBF News reports that MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A Myrtle Beach High School track star now leads the nation in high jump after breaking a state record that stood for more than four decades.

Julian Brown, a rising senior, cleared 7 feet 4 inches in April at the Beach Run Invitational.

The jump was Brown’s personal best and broke the previous state high school record of 7 feet 1 inch set in 1983.

Brown, who goes by J-J, is a triple-threat athlete who also plays football and basketball.

But his performance on the track has gained him national attention.

At the beginning of this year, Brown said he and his coaches set the bar high from the jump.
