WMBF News reports that LAKE CITY, SC (WMBF) - The police chief in Lake City has resigned, the city’s mayor confirmed Monday.

Mayor Yamekia Robinson told WMBF News that Chief Patrick Miles resigned on Monday.

Robinson said she thanked the chief for 21 years of service to the Lake City community, but would not confirm the reason for the resignation.

Miles became the chief of police in March of 2024 after the department had gone nearly 6 months without a chief.

Robinson also wished Miles well in his future endeavors.

In his resignation letter to the city administrator, Malik Whitaker, Miles said, “I have made the difficult decision to retire/resign and pursue the next chapter of my life and career.” The letter dated 6/8/2026 says his resignation is effective the same date.
