WMBF News reports that HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Horry County police are warning of a major uptick in scams targeting the elderly community.

Scammers are using unique tactics to get money from victims, but authorities say there is one thing everyone should keep in mind.

“We will never call and say you need to pay us money,” said Sgt.

Amy Jackson with the Horry County Police Department.

Authorities say the uptick in scams is nothing new.

County police say they typically involve McAfee antivirus or an alleged issue at the bank regarding fraudulent charges, but the newest one targets families specifically.
