WMBF News reports that HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A man in Horry County is behind bars after allegedly using a hacked Amazon account to order thousands of dollars in laptops.
The Horry County Sheriff’s Office charged Kelvin Lamont Baxter with one count of financial identity theft.
Deputies received a phone call Sunday from a victim who reported her Amazon account had been hacked, and someone had ordered more than $11,000 worth of laptop computers.
According to the sheriff’s office, the victim discovered the fraud when a package containing a laptop arrived at her home.
The victim attempted to log into her Amazon account but found the password had been changed, deputies say.
According to the officials, she gained access to the account through Amazon Support and found someone had used her credit card to purchase six laptops totaling $11,673.
