WMBF News reports that MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Horry County Council has adopted a new ordinance regulating where you can ride personal electric devices in unincorporated parts of the county.
31-2026 comes as more people use personal electric devices and officials see concerns about unsafe operations.
The ordinance applies to electric-powered, seated, wheeled devices.
It doesn’t cover mobility scooters, e-bikes, bicycles with helper motors or electric standing scooters.
Riders can’t ride on roads with speed limits over 20 mph, public sidewalks or county-owned property unless it’s specifically designated for that use.
Riders can ride on roads with speed limits under 20 mph and through crosswalks or intersections when crossing a road.
