WMBF News reports that MURRELLS INLET, SC (WMBF) - A proposed act making its way to the governor’s desk could impact South Carolina restaurants selling imported shrimp.
Henry McMaster, it would require any “food service establishment” selling foreign-imported shrimp to disclose it visibly for customers.
“This bill certainly helps make sure that when they do ask before they order, that they’re getting an honest and truthful answer,” said Bryan Jones, vice president of the South Carolina Shrimpers Association.
“We just want to make sure that honesty is on the menu.” Under the act, restaurants would have to include a disclaimer on their menu and on a sign by their entrance that shares what type of product they serve.
According to the act, if an establishment serves both foreign imported and domestic shrimp, the disclaimer would say “Some items served at this establishment may contain foreign imported shrimp.
Ask for more information.” If an establishment only serves foreign-imported shrimp, the disclaimer would say the following: “Some items served at this establishment contain foreign-imported shrimp.
