WMBF News reports that MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A highway widening project that has slowed traffic along Highway 17 for more than a year could be completed by the end of 2026.
The project runs for about a mile and a half between Highway 707 and Harrelson Boulevard and will expand the number of lanes from four to six.
“We’re looking forward to its completion, which is slated, weather dependent, of course, by the end of this year,” said Jennifer Timmons, director of media relations with the South Carolina Department of Transportation.
SCDOT began the expansion project after determining it was necessary due to the influx of cars in the area.
