HAZMAT called to Marion County home after suspicious powder found in package

WMBF News reports that MARION COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - An investigation is underway after a suspicious powder was discovered inside a package at a Marion County home Monday night.

Deputies with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded around 10 p.m.

to Aiken Road after a caller said she opened a package she was expecting and a powder “blew out.” EMS and firefighters in HAZMAT suits also responded to the scene.

The sheriff’s office clarified that it was firefighters, not deputies, who were seen in HAZMAT suits.

The caller was treated on scene by EMS and released.

The package has been secured and will be submitted for testing to determine what the substance is.
