WMBF News reports that MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Grand Strand Health completed a cardiovascular surgery that had never been performed in the area, allowing patients to receive specialized care locally instead of traveling to university hospitals.

The procedure involved repairing a tear in the aorta using stents.

A woman visiting the Grand Strand for vacation required the surgery after doctors discovered the tear.

“And in the past, we might need to send some of these to the big universities because they had the special equipment, and now that we have some of that special equipment here, and have done the cases, we’re able to provide that service for the community,” said Dr.

Parijat Didolkar, cardiothoracic surgeon at Grand Strand Health.

The case was complicated by the location of the tear.
