WMBF News reports that MURRELLS INLET, SC (WMBF) - New restrictions on red drum fishing take effect Wednesday, drawing mixed reactions from fishermen in the Murrells Inlet area.
The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources said the changes were necessary due to overfishing and a steady decline in red drum populations since 2010.
Under the new rules, the daily per-person limit drops from two fish to one.
The boat limit falls from six to two.
For charter boats, the limit is set at two fish regardless of the number of people on board.
The size limit for red drum has also changed, increasing from a range of 15–23 inches to 18–25 inches.
