WMBF News reports that (WMBF) - A Florence woman has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for the death of a 2-year-old, according to the attorney general’s office.
Attorney General Alan Wilson said Angel Renee Wallace, 34, was convicted of homicide by child abuse on Friday.
Officials said she was sentenced to 35 years in prison.
The attorney general’s office said Wallace caused the death of a 2-year-old through chronic, severe malnutrition about two months before his third birthday.
Officials said the child weighed 18 pounds at the time of death, well below the average weight of roughly 27 pounds for a 2-year-old The case was investigated by the Florence County Sheriff’s Office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, according to the attorney general’s office.
SLED also charged 48-year-old Maria Osterhout, of Florence, with homicide by child abuse and 3 counts of unlawful conduct toward a child.
