WMBF News reports that FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Florence County Fire Rescue has been awarded more than $100,000 in grant funding to improve responder safety and emergency operations, while also earning statewide recognition for its fire prevention efforts.
The department received $88,200 through the South Carolina V-SAFE Grant Program and an additional $20,000 Duke Energy Foundation Helping Emergency Response Organizations Grant, totaling more than $108,000.
The V-SAFE program, administered through the South Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal, provides funding to fire departments for equipment that improves firefighter safety and emergency response.
FCFR used a portion of the funding on traffic safety and responder protection.
Equipment purchased through the grant includes 18 portable speed bump sets, 18 sets of foldable traffic cones, four reflective Emergency Scene Ahead warning signs and multi-gas detection meters to be placed on frontline apparatus.
The HERO Grant funding will be used to equip two dedicated traffic control trucks that will respond to major vehicle collisions, roadway incidents and natural disasters.
