WMBF News reports that (WIS) - South Carolina’s race for governor is shaping up as a high‑profile contest, with a Republican primary runoff now set and Democrats rallying behind a single nominee ahead of November’s general election.

Republicans Pamela Evette and Alan Wilson will face each other in a June 23 runoff after neither candidate secured more than 50% of the vote in Tuesday’s primary.

Evette finished with 28.86% of the vote, while Wilson trailed closely at 26.15%.

The runoff follows a crowded GOP primary and is expected to draw significant attention in the coming weeks, as both candidates begin sharpening contrasts and courting voters who backed other contenders.

Evette, a business owner serving her second term as lieutenant governor, emphasized her private‑sector background and outreach to rural voters.

I’m not a career politician like my opponent,” Evette said.
