WMBF News reports that RED SPRINGS, NC (WMBF) - Residents in Red Springs are voicing their concerns and worries for the future of their town and safety.

This comes following former police chief Antoinette Hurtt’s sudden resignation on Friday, effective immediately.

According to a statement the town posted Monday, Hurtt’s resignation came after the town manager, Shanelle Harris, canceled a biweekly podcast.

The news came as a shock to community members.

“She does not put me in the mind of a person to give up very easily,” said David Swan, who was raised in Red Springs.

“If Hurtt just resigned like that, I know there had to have been some more to it than just the podcast.” Hurtt joined the department in January, but people say she has made a lot of positive changes for the community in a short period of time.
