WMBF News reports that MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A fisherman in the Grand Strand came across an endangered sea turtle.

In a Saturday Facebook post, South Carolina State Parks said that an angler at the Myrtle Beach State Park fishing pier accidentally caught an endangered Kemp’s Ridley sea turtle.

The turtle was brought up with a drop net, as permitted, and trained rangers were called to figure out the best treatment.

It was superficially hooked and entangled in fishing line, and all was easily removed by the rangers.

Park rangers then released the turtle after they were given permission by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources sea turtle staff.

South Carolina said Kemp’s ridleys are some of the most endangered sea turtles in the world and are unlike others.
