Education Superintendent Ellen Weaver control of hires and spending while she tries to fix the district’s financial problems.
It was just 10 months ago that Marlboro County School Board Chairman Michael Coachman welcomed Education Superintendent Ellen Weaver’s decision to declare a state of financial emergency when the long-struggling district was only able to make payroll by not paying other bills.
The state would be able to bring in help to return the district to solvency — without it having to resort to such disruptive ideas as consolidating schools just weeks before classes started.
