Georgetown County deputies arrested a man wanted out of Florence County, who remained at large after an overnight search.

The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office arrested 53-year-old Charles Murphy, of Scranton, who ran from a traffic stop on Highway 701 near Walmart on Tuesday when deputies tried to take him into custody.

Deputies said Murphy and Krystal Johnson broke away after a scuffle and led officers on a high-speed chase down Highway 701.

The chase ended at Pringle Ferry Landing, where deputies said the two abandoned their Mercedes and jumped into the water.

Deputies said Murphy made it back to shore and escaped capture after an extensive search that continued into the early morning hours.
