WMBF News reports that DARLINGTON, SC (WMBF) - New protective equipment has been given to K-9’s in the Pee Dee.

The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office said that the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K-9s, Inc donated bullet and stab-protective vests to K-9s Chapo, Chili, and Pablo.

K-9 Chili’s vest was sponsored by Ann Stinger of Springfield, PA and will be embroidered with the sentiment “Honoring those who served and sacrificed”.

“On behalf of Sheriff August and our K9 Unit, we are incredibly grateful for the donation of bullet and stab-proof vests for K9s Chapo, Chili, and Pablo," said deputies.

“Our K9s are not just a law enforcement tool; to us, they are our partners and part of our family.

These vests will provide each K9 with additional security while in the line of duty.” The vests are made in the United States, custom-fitted, and certified by the National Institute of Justice.
