Crews announce 90% containment of 90-acre Marlboro County wildfire

WMBF News reports that MARLBORO COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Fire crews in the Pee Dee are working to fully contain a wildfire.

On Wednesday, the Bennettsville Fire Department said that the nearly 90-acre wildfire is 90% contained.

Bennettsville Fire and the South Carolina Forestry Commission have been working to fight the large fire that began last Friday around noon.

The agency said the fire is located on Marlboro Road.

“Firefighters worked in challenging conditions, constructing fire breaks, wet lines, and completing back burns in areas where bulldozers and other heavy equipment could not gain access.

Despite communication challenges at times, all agencies worked together toward one common goal, containing the fire and protecting our community,” said Bennettsville Fire.
