Coroner identifies swimmer recovered in Murrells Inlet

WMBF News reports that GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The coroner identified a swimmer whose body was recovered in Murrells Inlet on Friday.

Georgetown County Coroner Chase Ridgeway said Al Almarzouqi, 54, of Myrtle Beach, was recovered after he attempted to swim from a boat to the beach.

Ridgeway said he went under and did not resurface.

The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office, along with Murrells Inlet-Garden City Fire Rescue, assisted in the search for the missing swimmer before crews recovered a body from the water.

An autopsy will be performed Sunday to determine the cause of death, Ridgeway said.
