Coroner identifies 5-year-old killed in Dorchester County dog attack

WMBF News reports that (WCSC) — The Dorchester County Coroner’s Office has released the name of a child who was killed in a dog attack Saturday.

Jayceon Gates, 5, of Charleston died after being attacked by a pit bull terrier while at a caregiver’s home, Coroner Paul Brouthers said.

Deputies with the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 100 block of Chemistry Circle regarding an active disturbance at approximately 7:30 a.m.

Upon arrival, deputies located an adult and a child suffering injuries consistent with a dog attack.

Both individuals were transported to a hospital for medical treatment.

The child, now identified as Gates, died of his injuries at 9:15 a.m.
