WMBF News reports that MULLINS, SC (WMBF) - The annual Juneteenth Mullins Celebration returned Saturday with a new addition.

Members of the community came out for the 6th annual event, hosted by Pick 42 Foundation.

The event was held as an early celebration to honor Juneteenth, the day many remaining slaves in the United States were freed.

“It was an immediate celebration and party,” said Mayor Miko Pickett.

“So that’s essentially what we do we are celebrating freedom, we’re celebrating 1865 when the African Americans that were living in Texas got their word that they were free, and so we do it in so many ways.” New to the annual celebration, a parade was added to the lineup of things people could enjoy.

The first-ever Mullins Juneteenth parade began at 1 p.m.
