Airman drowns in South Carolina lake, coroner says

WYFF 4 reports that An airman based at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, South Carolina, was identified as the victim in a drowning.

The Fairfield County Coroner's Office said Airman Carlen Hailey, 23, previously of Los Angeles, was on Lake Wateree on a pontoon when he jumped into the water.

Officials said Hailey, who was unable to swim, began to struggle and went under the water and never resurfaced.

Hailey’s body was found in Fairfield County in approximately 25 feet of water.Hailey died of accidental drowning, the coroner's office said.
