WIS News 10 reports that (WIS) - WIS spoke with an expert to get his take on what caused a sonic boom heard across the Midlands on Thursday.
Venkat Narayanaswamy, a professor at the North Carolina State University Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, sat down with WIS anchor Judi Gatson on Friday.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported the sonic boom late Thursday evening, but it’s unclear what caused it.
WIS received reports from across Columbia as well as surrounding counties, and even areas outside of the viewing area, such as Darlington and Chesterfield counties.
