DAY 4: State, defense rest in Rick Chow murder trial

WIS News 10 reports that (WIS) - The murder trial of former Columbia-area gas station owner Rick Chow could be nearing its end.

Chow’s defense rested Friday, the fourth day of the trial.

The jury was also sent home for the weekend, with closing arguments set to begin on Monday.

Chow is charged with murder in the death of 14-year-old Cyrus Carmack-Belton, who prosecutors argue was fatally shot in the back after being falsely accused of stealing a water bottle from Chow’s store in May 2023.

Prosecutors also said Chow chased Carmack-Belton from his Parklane Road store.

The defense, however, asserts that the teen pointed a gun at Chow’s son, Andy, and Chow responded by firing the fatal shot.
